Review: Oh, the Places You'll Go

Title: Oh, the Places You'll Go
Author: Dr. Seuss
Genre: Children's Lit
My Rating:  ★★★★

In this joyous ode to life, Dr. Seuss addresses graduates of all ages, from nursery school to medical school, and gives them the get-up-and-go to move mountains with the unrivaled exuberance and charm that have made Dr. Seuss's books favorites for years.

I have often heard about Dr. Seuss but I never bothered picking up a copy of his pieces until today. And boy I’m glad I did! This is my first Dr. Seuss read and definitely not going to be my last.

Dr. Seuss summed up life no, living in this 44 pages book;the rosy dreams, the daunting risks, the unexpected twists and turns, the crushing falls because you can’t win it all. Yet there’s also how to get yourself back up dust yourself off. Life is a one roller coaster ride but while you’re at it, you can put your hands up and enjoy the drive.

The words are powerful and beautifully written. It’s philosophic yet undemanding and fun —not to mention the pictures (hey! Who doesn't love picture books?)that captures children and adult readers alike. Here's my favorite verse:

I'm afraid that some times
you'll play lonely games too.
Games you can't win
'cause you'll play against you.

All Alone!
Whether you like it or not,
Alone will be something
you'll be quite a lot.

Shoulders’ hunched, head down, and in need of something light that can cheer your low spirits up? Give this book a try and oh, the places you’ll go! I'll keep coming back to the pages myself. What can I say? I love this book to bits.

Now excuse me while I go cocoon myself more of Dr. Seuss’ work because to miss them is just plain wrong.

60 seconds writing : Rocker

And even if everyday it’s there I still feel the same nostalgia running whenever I see it. All there’s left is this rocker with its bleak color as old as time. It even outlasted her. As I rock myself back and forth, memories come to life like an old roll of film playing backwards. I close my eyes as tears fall down. I miss her. No. I refuse to believe the rocker is all there is left. I have our memories. And as long as I have it, she lives. [...]

60 seconds writing : Shoulder

Even now every cell in my body still trembles in horror. “It’s a beautiful night” he said when I feel his warm, soft hands gently caressing my face reassuring me. My lip curls-up in a smile knowing I couldn’t be any safer than being beside him. Cold breeze brushes my face as I lean my head against his shoulder; I feel serenity. The night entirely blankets the sky with glinting stars hanging freely. I slowly closed my eyes until everything turned pitch black. It is beautiful night indeed.

Right people at the wrong time

It has been an annual tradition of our  institution to celebrate Acquaintance party along with the induction of new set of officers for this school year.
